Election Appeal Process

We understand that sometimes the outcomes of your benefits enrollment might feel a bit off course. If you think a decision or result regarding your benefits (like health insurance) was incorrect or unfair, you have the right to request a review. For instance, if a benefit election for a dependent was denied or you couldn’t enroll during an enrollment window.

Just a note, though, and this is important: You must elect your benefits during Open Enrollment held every October to be covered. This is your only chance each year to choose your benefits, unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event. However, we recognize there could be extenuating circumstances that prevent that from happening, so we’ll consider an appeal in cases like these:

  • Unforeseeable events, such as a natural disaster or man-made issue out of your control like a riot or strike that prevent you from electing your benefits during an enrollment period
  • Extraordinary life circumstances that prevent you from selecting or finishing your elections during an enrollment period, such as an emergency that leaves you in the hospital or incapacitated
  • System issue – think technology failure
  • False information – in the rare instance you get incorrect information about the enrollment procedure or your benefits from a leader or agent of the company

So, how do you appeal? Here’s how it typically works:

  1. If you disagree with a decision or result concerning  your enrollment, you can file an appeal. This usually involves submitting a written request along with any supporting documents. This must be done within 14 days of the end of an enrollment period.
  2. Your appeal will be reviewed by a member of the Trilogy Benefits Team.
  3. After the review is complete, you’ll get a final decision in writing.

You can find the full Election Appeals Policy under the Employee Services policies tab in Compass to learn more. Need to file an appeal? Find the form here.
